Cross-country Switzerland
The Engadin valley with its world famous city of St. Moritz is considered the Alps’ cross country skiing heartland. Every year on the second Sunday in March there is the Engadin ski marathon. Thousands of cross country skiers race between Maloja and Zuoz with a distance of 42 km between them. With its many flat tracks, this region offers even the less ambitious skier a plentiful selection.
Also recommendable for cross country skiing fans is the idyllic mountain village of Adelboden in the western part of Berner Oberland. Around the village there are about 31 km of tracks with several higher tracks. The Sonnenloipe track on the Engstligenalp offers plenty of snow till spring.
An additional attractive area for cross country skiers in Switzerland: Engelberg, one-time cloister village, and today a modern winter sport Mecca. On the upper Trübsee tracks even dogs are allowed. A further attraction is the night skiing at the Sporting Park, with its length of 1,5 km, it has something to offer even experienced cross country skiers.
