Ski vacations Unterwasser - Skiing with an impressive backdrop!
Unterwasser
Unterwasser lies embedded between the Churfirsten and Alpstein mountains at an altitude of 906 m. Due to its location, this charming resort in Eastern Switzerland is easily one of the most diverse regions in the entire country. Furthermore, Unterwasser, in combination with Alt St. Johann and Wildhaus, belongs to one of the most high-lying communities in Toggenburg, allowing you to enjoy an impressive, gorgeous view of the Churfirsten and Säntis mounain ranges.Besides the numerous cosy taverns and restaurants, Unterwasser also offers quite a bit in the ways of winter sports. The lift system in Toggenburg dates back to 1934 and today, many winter sports fans come not just for the week, but for day trips arriving from Zurich, St. Gallen and southern Germany just to enjoy these fabulous pistes. Last but not least, the famous ski springer, Olympic champion and world master Simon Ammann was raised here!
Toggenburg
The region of Toggenburg, or "Das Toggenburg," lies in the middle of the St. Gallen canton in eastern Switzerland and spreads out mostly over the Thur- and Necker valleys. At just under 60 km, Toggenburg is decorated with 30 little-to-medium-sized villages, all of which are just as diverse and unique as the ski region itself. The most easily recognised symbol of the region is the Churfirsten mountain range (up to 2,262 m) which makes up Toggenburg's southern border and is therefore a true skiing paradise. To this day, the tradition of yodeling is still practised in both the valley and on the mountain, which you might be able to experience once or twice during your stay. Moreover, Toggenburg is the largest winter sports region in eastern Switzerland and is favoured both by families as well as professionals. Idyllic natural, snowcapped mountainous landscapes, cultural offers and numerous sporting and leisure activities provide the perfect conditions for both a relaxing and exciting holiday!
