Ski vacations Obertraun – Deep powder snow paradise at the Dachstein!

Obertraun

In the middle of the breathtaking landscape of the Hallstatt-Dachstein Salzkammergut lies Obertraun - a small village full of charm and Alpine flair. Surrounded by imposing mountains and glistening lakes, Obertraun is the perfect starting point for nature lovers, adventure-seekers and those looking for peace and quiet in equal measure. Discover the Dachstein Krippenstein giant ice cave, a fascinating natural spectacle that takes visitors into a sparkling world of ice - only open in the summer season. In winter, Obertraun is transformed into a paradise for skiers, freeriders and snowboarders: the Dachstein-Krippenstein ski area offers perfectly groomed pistes, fresh powder snow and spectacular views across the Alps.

But Obertraun has even more to offer: Hiking, cycling, relaxing hours by the lake or simply enjoying the tranquillity of the small "Traundörfl" village. Here, nature, sport and relaxation come together to create an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Austrian Alps.

Dachstein Salzkammergut

The inner Salzkammergut is a historical and scenic cultural area in the foothills of the Northern Alps, stretching from around the Dachstein massif from Bad Ischl in the North to Bad Mitterndorf in the East. Hence, the entire Salzkammergut lies in the federal states of Upper Austria, Styria and Salzburg, whereas Dachstein lies mainly in Upper Austria.

The Dachstein massif is rich in salt, attributing the region an important role as far back as the 14th century. On top of that, some important archaeological findings were made. The unique environment together with the historically important cultural landscape made the area become a UNESCO World Natural and World Cultural Heritage site in 1997. Today, the salt mines and the panorama of the World Natural Heritage region are great tourist attractions, just like the diverse winter sports offers at the Dachstein massif.
