Ski vacations Kranjska Gora - a resort for families!

Kranjska Gora

The resort of Kranjska Gora, with its 1,973 residents, is located near the Triglav National Park, surrounded by mountains and glacial lakes. The alpine holiday resort in the Northwest of Slovenia is known as a relaxation and winter sports resort. Even though Slovenia is becoming more and more attractive to winter sports fans, the traditional charm of the country has not disappeared. This is in part due to the Nordic Centre Planica, where ski jumping and flying as well as cross-country training and competitions take place based on Slovenian tradition. Eight ski jumping hills can be found in the Nordic Centre Planica in Kranjska Gora.

Cross-country fans will certainly get their money's worth in summer as much as in winter: in winter, the outdoor cross-country trails are utilised and in summer, the fun continues in the covered cross-country polygon. Those who are still active in the evening will find an illuminated night slalom obstacle course available to enjoy.

Upper Sava Valley

The Upper Sava Valley in Slovenia is located in the far north-west of the country, close to the border triangle with Italy and Austria. Towards the north, you can expect fantastic views of the Karawanken mountains, while towards the south you can see the Julian Alps.

Winters are cold in the Upper Sava Valley, so nothing stands in the way of winter sports in the Slovenian Alps. Nevertheless, the slopes on the Karavanke side in particular enjoy an excellent sunny location, which makes skiing possible with great snow and sunshine at the same time.

Winter holidaymakers in the Upper Sava Valley appreciate the Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) ski region, which comprises a total of 18 municipalities and 18 large and small ski areas. With 30 kilometres of pistes, Krvavec is the largest ski area, followed by Vogel (22 kilometres of pistes), Kranjska Gora (20 kilometres of pistes) and Cerkno (18 kilometres of pistes). The other 14 ski areas are also manageable and therefore ideal for families and beginners in particular.

Even if the Upper Sava Valley is very idyllic and quiet, there are still larger, vibrant towns to visit. The town of Kranj, for example, with its 56,000 inhabitants, is always worth a visit. And don't forget Slovenia's marvellous capital Ljubljana!
