Ski vacations Eisenerz – skiing in the activity region Erzberg!
Eisenerz
Embedded in the original nature landscape lies the picturesque resort Eisenerz. The impressive mountain massif of the Ore Alps lies approx. 30 km to the north-west of the regional capital Leoben and is only accessible via the passway road at the Präbichl (1,226 m). Approx. 4,350 people live in the village Eisenerz, which has historically evolved though the tradition of ore mining in this region. Hence, the neighbouring mountain Erzberg (1,466 m), which is also known as the "Styrian bread loaf", is the most important economic and traditional factor of the region. It is one of the best-known mountains in Austria and has a show mine, which is also one of the largest tourist attractions of the region.Eisenerz itself has a wonderfully romantic old town and many sights to visit, such as the centrally located miner's square with fountain, the old town hall with arcade courtyard and Sgraffito decoration, and the parish church St. Oswald, the largest church-castle in Styria. A wonderful view of the town and the Ore Mountains can be enjoyed from the head tower, which is easily accessed from the old town via a short serpentine road. Further, the ski area Präbichl offers toboggan runs, winter hiking trails and cross-country trails, which add to the diversity of this attractive holiday destination.
Eisenerz Alps (Ore Alps)
The Eisenert Alps (Ore Alps) form the most southern part of the Ennstal Alps in the Upper Styria. The wild-romantic mountain massif is characterised by craggy vales, rough peaks and vast pastures. The highest mountain and the most attractive hiking destination of the approx. 60 km long massif is the Gößeck (2,214 m). The largest tourist magnets however are the Erzberg (1,466 m) with it's public show mine, and the neighbouring Eisenerzer Reichstein (2,165 m). The latter is a popular destination for hikers and ski tourers, and also provides for a spectacular view point. Thanks to the altitude, the Eisenerz Alps are known to be a very reliable region for snow in winter. The many guests who come to the ski areas at the Präbichl, to Wald am Schoberpass or at Kaiserau will enjoy the well-maintained pistes.Travel Eisenerz
