Ski area Plan de Corones

The ski area around the Plan de Corones (2,275 m), South Tyrols ski no. 1 ski mountain, is known as snow secure from December to April due to its several snow machines. 121 km of piste and 31 modern lifts take you to altitudes between 973 m and 2,275 m, offering young and old a good time. A ski bus connects Chienes with the ski area.

The 8-seater "Korer" gondola is particularly suitable for beginners, children and families. A 100 m wide piste with a 160 m difference in altitude awaits you here. Kronplatz is generally considered a very family-friendly ski area with lots on offer for children. At the summit of Kronplatz, for example, there is the "Croniworld", where parents can watch their children's progress and enjoy a wonderful 360-degree panorama at the same time. One of the longest descents, at around 4.5 km, takes you to Olang-Gassl, where you cover 1,109 metres in altitude. For even longer skiing fun, the longest piste "Ried" with 7 km and a difference in altitude of 1103 metres is an alternative.

More experienced alpine skiers will enjoy the "Black Five" - the 5 black pistes Sylvester, Herrnegg, Pre da Peres, Erta and Piculin. Three valley runs into three different cardinal directions round off the offer. The ski area is scene of diverse sports events such as the Snowboard Worldcup. A series of lift pass purchasing points and free Wi-Fi hotspots is available throughout the area.

During the previous season, Plan de Corones was upgraded: the popular Sonnenlift was replaced, completely renewed and many features like heated seats and protective covers were added. The Miara cabins now have free Wi-Fi and the artificial snow-making facilities were improved. In the 19/20 season, the non-coupling chair lift Rara was replaced by the modern "Skitrans Bronta". Since its construction, it has held the title of the shortest 12-seater gondola lift in the world and connects the valley stations of the "Miara" and "Pedagá" gondolas.

For an even bigger choice of pistes, the upgrade to the "Dolomit Superski" lift pass is possible, giving you the choice of 1,200 km of piste and 450 lifts!

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.

Night skiing Chienes

If you are a fan of night skiing, you can head to the neighbouring village of Terenten on Fridays at 19:00. Here, the lifts are open until 22:00 for night skiing. The blue piste is around 0.8 km long and offers a fantastic view of the valley.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 20:00 to 22:00, you can also use the 700-metre-long Cianross slope for night skiing in San Vigilio. Tobogganing is also possible here.

Another popular destination for night skiing is the Korer piste in Reischach. The approximately 1.7 km long piste, which is also ideal for tobogganing, opens its doors every Tuesday and Saturday from 19:30 to 22:00, except on 24/12/24.

Après ski Chienes

The après ski offer in the region can be found in close vicinity of the ski area, e.g. at the valley station of the Plan de Corones, where several après ski bars are a good place to finish the day. In Brunico, you can find e.g. the Après Ski Tenne, in Valdaora there is the Gassl Bar and the Skistadl. Afterwards, in Chienes, the evening comes to a more quiet end. The hearty rural cuisine makes you gain back your strength.

If you prefer a more sporty evening after a day's skiing, you could try tobogganing. Guests gather at the natural toboggan run at Moarhofalm for some fun in the moonlight. A natural ice rink can also be found in Chienes. And how about a snowshoe hike to explore the picturesque surroundings? Once a week, guided tours are organised.

Snowpark: Snowpark Kronplatz Chienes

Freestylers can look forward to two snow parks in the Plan de Corones ski area. They are primarily aimed at beginners and the next generation of freestylers, but more experienced riders can also let off steam here. The Easy Park is located directly at the Belvedere mountain station. Obstacles with an easy level of difficulty are available here on an approx. 800 metre long line. The following elements are available to freestylers on an Easy, Medium Rail and Medium Kicker Line: 5 Easy Kickers, 4 Boxes, 2 Medium Rails, 1 Pipeslide and 1 Jib. There is also a Family Fun Line with whoops, banked turns, tunnels, fun run elements and new F-tech Family Fun Boxes.

The Jib Park is a little more challenging. It is located on the Korer piste and offers 6,000 m² of freestyle fun. Among other things, there are several rails, pipeslides and a waveroller.
