Ski vacations Willingen - World Cup approved and full of variety!

Willingen

The North Hesse municipality of Willingen is located in the north-easternmost corner of the Rothaar mountain range, on the boarder of North Rhine-Westfalia. Normally, you see 'Hochsauerland' added to its name to strengthen its character as a winter sport location, but that's hardly necessary in Willingen: the Ski-Jump World Cup takes place here every year on the famous Mühlenkopfschanze and the upcoming season's date is from planned for 26/01 - 28/01/2018. Also, championships in the EWF- Biathlon-Arena, which was built in 2007, take place regularly.

Naturally, there's a lot on offer for the hobby winter sports athlete. There are a total of 16 km of pistes, over 100 km of cross-country trails, 30 km of winter hiking trails, and several toboggan runs round out the offer. The diversity of activities, indoor sports, museums, and restaurants are sure to inspire and delight: rock-climbing halls, go-kart tracks, bowling lanes, laguna spa pool, ice rink, mine, and brewery-just to name a few! The viaduct, which was built almost a century ago and which is now used as a railroad bridge, is a further landmark in the city.

Sauerland

Sauerland, in the south-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, is surrounded by the Lower Hesse mountain country, the edge of the Ostsauerländischen Gebirgsland, Wittgensteiner Land, Siegerland, and the Bergischen Land. As part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, it's dominated by birch and spruce forests. Also known as the land of a thousand mountains, among Sauerland's highest mountains are Langenberg, Hegekopf, and the Kahle Asten, which contribute quite a bit to the region's winter sports. You may also take advantage of some of the countless cross-county trails and discover the breathtaking landscapes of these uplands. For those who prefer something a little more relaxed, a romantic sleigh ride through the snowy scenery is highly recommended. Floodlit facilities and toboggan runs for snow-tubes provide that extra bit of fun for the whole family.
