Ski vacations Schierke - snowy fairytale world at Brocken!
Schierke
The climatic health resort Schierke lies in the middle of the national park Hochharz, directly below the Brocken (1.141 m). In winter, the picturesque village turns into a fine snow sports paradise. Worth seeing in the village are the Kurpark with its botanical rarities and the "Alte Apotheke", where the popular herbal liqueur Schierker Feuerstein is distilled. Winter hikes to Schierke's local mountain, the Brocken, are available from the town centre. Along the river "Kalte Bode" there is an impressive cliff architecture that will please not only geologists. Particularly spectacular and Schierker's landmark at the same time is the Feuersteinklippe, after which local liqueur is also named.Sports activities are also available in the village. You can let off steam on a total of three toboggan runs: on the "Großmutter" toboggan run, on two smaller slopes behind the youth hostel and in front of the tourist information office.
Schierke not only offers a wide range of leisure activities, but also organises cultural events in winter to make a visit even more varied. The highlight is the "Schierker Winter Sports Weeks". At the family festival, visitors can expect a programme with games and fun in the snow, including an igloo festival and ice sculpture construction.
Harz
The Harz is the most Northern winter sport area in Germany and offers a diverse wildlife on a 2,200 km² big expanse. As soon as the first snow falls, winter sports fans find their way into this magnificent area, which is made possible by the Brocken (1,141 m), the highest mountain in Northern Germany. Especially in the villages around the National Park Harz, which was founded transnationally in 1995, attractive Alpine skiing, as well as cross-country skiing areas have developed. Cross-country tracks and pistes with varying degrees of difficulty, as well as toboggan runs and nature ice areas arrange for diverse recreational fun for the whole family. The dreamlike winter landscape can also be explored by way of one of the versatile winter hiking trails. Furthermore, numerous rustic restaurants invite you to enjoy a cosy evening with local specialities or international cuisine.Travel Schierke
