Ski area Schmittenhöhe - Zell am See

With the"Ski Alpin Card" lift pass, you can ski not only on the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel, but also in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Fieberbrunn and on the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See on an incredible 408 kilometres of pistes. In keeping with the motto "1 ticket, 3 regions, endless mountains".

In Zell am See and Kaprun, you have access to 138 kilometres of pistes and over 49 modern lifts in the two ski areas of Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as the glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn, which extends up to over 3,029 m above sea level.

With its 61 kilometres, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area and the Maiskogel family ski area offer mostly blue and red pistes for beginners and leisure skiers. Wide carving pistes and long, sporty descents, such as the 5 km long piste from the top station of the Gletscherjet 4, make skiers' hearts beat faster. Experts looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush, on the other hand, are in just the right place on the Black Mamba with a gradient of up to 63 per cent. From Kaprun, you can reach the glacier with the Gletscherjet and the Panoramabahn or directly from the town centre with the MK Maiskogelbahn and the 3K K-onnection, one of the most modern and energy-efficient cable cars in the world, the K-onnection built in 2019.

From Zell am See, you can quickly reach the Schmittenhöhe ski area (2,000 m) with the CityXpress, the TrassXpress or the Schmittenhöhenbahn, which offers slopes of all levels of difficulty. Experts can try their hand at the 4 km long Trass run, which is considered the most difficult in the entire ski area and one of the steepest runs in the whole of Salzburger Land.

The Maiskogel ski area, on the other hand, is particularly suitable for families and leisure skiers with a large proportion of wide and blue pistes. At the mountain station of the Almbahn cable car, winter sports enthusiasts will also find the longest run in the ski region at around 7 kilometres.

Each of the three ski areas has its own fun park with tables, slides and jumps. Freeriders will also find plenty of opportunities. A total of 5 freeride routes and a comprehensive information system with infobase and info points are available. On the Schmittenhöhe, for example, you can let off steam on the open ski area below the Sonnkogelbahn cable car.

As a special service, the ski areas around Zell am See and Kaprun offer free Wi-Fi at various hotspots throughout the ski area. It's child's play to access the Wi-Fi network and surf the internet, download the latest snow reports or post pictures!

Since December 2019, the Schmittenhöhe has been connected to the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The brand new zellamseeXpress now runs from Viehhofen in the Glemmtal valley. Six cabins have a jukebox to which you can connect your music. A ski bus also runs between Viehhofen and Vorderglemm.

Night skiing Zell am See

One of the ski areas in Austria where you can go skiing at night time is the ski area Zell am See-Kaprun. The night ski area can be found at the Ebenbergbahn lift in Zell am See. The cable car closes its daytime operation earlier on night skiing days. Every Tuesday and Thursday, winter sports enthusiasts can still ski at night from 17:00 to 20:30 on the 1.5 km long floodlit "Nightslope" piste. The night ski experiences also includes a fascinating view of the illuminated resort in the valley. Should you not have a valid lift pass, a ticket for night skiing can be acquired in resort.

Snowpark: Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn Zell am See

In the three ski areas, you have access to a major freestyle area. The first stop is the Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark, where adrenaline junkies and freestyle enthusiasts can enjoy four versatile areas at once.

In the "Easy Park" kids and newbies can start their freestyle career with practise moves. There is rainbow box, a wave box, a down rail and 3 kickers. In the "Central Park" and "South Central Park" pros and experts can show off their skills. 9 metres long barrier, various rails and kickers (5 - 13 m), as well as a knuckle leave no wishes unfulfilled. Right at the top, at 2,900 metres altitude, there is the "Glacier Park", which is however only open during spring and autumn. Besides the snow parks there is also a Eagle line with obstacles for beginners, as well as a real highlight: the 150 metre long and 6.50 metre high super-pipe - the largest in Austria.

More action is to be found in the fun park "Schmitten" on the Schmittenhöhe. This park offers obstacles such as rails, boxes, and kickers and is mainly geared to beginners and pros. The "Schmitten XXL" promises loads of entertainment: a 1,300 metre long fun slope with wave ride, jumps, tunnels, etc.

A further park is ideal for families with kids: the "Schmidolins Drachenpark" offers kids a wave run and some small ramps and therefore provide the best conditions for trying out first moves in the freestyle sport.

Another highlight is the kids slope on the Glocknerwiese.
