Ski vacations Dornbirn - Culture and skiing at Lake Constance!
Dornbirn
With almost 50,000 inhabitants, Dornbirn is the most populous city in Vorarlberg in Austria and is located just 13 kilometres from the southern shore of Lake Constance. The history of the town dates back to the Middle Ages, before Dornbirn developed into a textile centre in the 19th and 20th centuries. The town's historical landmark is the market square with the Red House, while its modern landmark is the impressive funicular railway, which takes thousands of visitors up to a viewing platform high above the town every year and offers a breathtaking view over the Rhine Valley. The Dornbirn City Museum and the Kunsthaus Dornbirn also offer exciting insights for those interested in culture, while the nearby Rappenlochschlucht nature reserve with its impressive hiking trails attracts nature lovers.Lake Constance
For many, picturesque Lake Constance is the epitome of a perfect relaxing holiday. It is located in the foothills of the Alps and therefore close to enchanting mountain scenery, but the largest part of its shore is on Bavarian soil surrounded by gentle alpine pastures. At 536 km², Lake Constance is the largest lake in Germany in terms of surface area and is made up of two lakes and a connecting river: Obersee, Untersee and Seerhein. The entire Lake Constance region even extends across four countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland border directly on the lake, as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein. One of the advantages of the holiday region around this beautiful body of water is its versatility. Attractive towns such as Bregenz, Constance, Lindau and Friedrichshafen invite you to visit them, several castles and fortresses are reminiscent of ancient times and a large number of museums, galleries and modern architecture appeal to culture vultures. The proximity to the surrounding mountains invites you to go skiing and snowboarding, winter hiking or tobogganing. The Lake Constance region offers an attractive destination for active holidaymakers all year round with its two different sporting worlds on the water and in the mountains.Travel Dornbirn
